HOW TO DO WELL IN THE PERSONAL INTERVIEW OF EXAMS LIKE NBDE, DDS ?

Impression = a mark on a surface,

Opinion formed after noticing someone

Lesson 7 – “Impressing the Examiner ” (Interviewer) Oral Examination/Interview

Friends, Remember, in the last post, I told you about Expressing yourself well in the Written exam (Dental Dreams Lesson 6)?

There I mentioned about Impression of the Examiner – what does a examiner look for ?

EXAMINATION

PURPOSE = to EXPRESS your Knowledge

AIM = to IMPRESS the Examiner

GOAL = to achieve 100% SUCCESS

In todays modern day academics, personal interviews are one the most used way by the colleges to evaluate the applicants. The interviews in courses/exams like NBDE, DDS and other foreign dental exams are very tough and challenging.

Writing answer on a Paper is very different than Answering in in Interview.

In written exam you are imagining the examiner, It is only you and the answer sheet of PAPER; while in Oral Examination you will come Face to Face with 1-4 examiners.

Always keep in mind that your Examiner/s is as HUMAN as YOU!

S/he has a mind, likes-dislikes, problems of Life, choice, mood, varied opinion etc.

Today the test is –How you Impress the Human mind in front of you with the LIVE Expression of your Knowledge.

If written exam was a FILM shoot, Oral exam is a DRAMA.

You will be Performing in front of other Human beings,

No retakes or Corrections here!

Having clearly understood the main difference,

you will have NO problems in giving a superb Performance in Orals.

To Know the 2nd Set of Tricks to Score 100 % in

Any Interview

(C)

Be in the Same Wavelength

the trick of GOOD Oral exam is, to get yourself on the same wavelength as

that of your examiner. When two trains are running parallel at the same

speed you can easily jump from one to the other without falling down.

Like YOU are here to Impress your examiner, you as Examinee TRY to gauge

your examiner. That will give you an Insight into his Mind.

Once you have that It will be Easy for you to know what he expects out of you.

How To Answer The Questions

Understand EACH Question Clearly.

In case you couldn’t get the question 1st time, Ask again of course with a pardon.

Keep your answer like a Potato wafer (CHIP) – CRISP & FRESH.

  1. Crisp= hard enough, to the point, extremely relevant, don’t go on & on enough and in your Own words, try to Phrase it nicely
  2. Fresh = Pertinent
  3. Answer Long or short according to the question.
  4. If you do NOT know the answer or if you have gone blank suddenly please ADMIT it openly. That way you may get a second chance OR at least some Marks.
  5. Never try to beat around the bush.
  6. If you are not sure about the current topic at all, request for another topic of which you may be confident, if necessary.
  7. Try and maintain a Sweet but clear voice, it is Impressive.
  8. Never shout or speak softly.
  9. Control the emotions of your face. As it is rightly said – Face is the mirror of your mind. So if you get overtly tensed and it shows on your face – then it acts a negative point for your interview.
  10. Never Ever get in to mode of confrontation with the examiners who are interviewing you. That’s why controlling you r emotions matters so much. Though its very rare, but there are cases when many candidates have knowingly or unknowingly entered in to a state of argument with the examiners. In such a scenario you can just say good bye to your chances of getting selected.
  11. Keep in mind – “1st Impression is the last impression” – particularly in case of interviews. There is not going to be a retake. So, it doesn’t matter who you really are. That’s for latter. But when its time to face interview, be at you best behaviour and sense.
  12. Brush Your Mouth ! – Yes ! Don’t ever go to any interview after eating some strong odour food like garlic, onion or meat. Even if you do eat – make sure you brush your teeth properly. Last thing you want for the examiner to avoid your answers due to halitosis.
  13. Believe in yourself – You are sitting in the interview because of your caliber. So believe in your self and be confident.

Tings TO Do or NOT to Do

Before Interview

(E)

Point to Note Before & During the Interview

  1. Eat a light meal, Not heavy
  2. Have a Sweet or a Chocolate, it will release Endorphins and elevate your mood.
  3. Do Not argue or discuss any topic
  4. Do NOT do anything that may harm your Mind.
  5. Take UTMOST care to keep your Mind healthy.
  6. B +ve.
  7. a HAPPY healthy cheerful mind Attracts everybody and ur examiner is a Human.
  8. ABC = Always Be C O N F I D E N T !

The key to be successful in high demand dental exam interviews is to be at your best. Don’t worry much about your credentials. Your credentials are fine, thats why you have been selected for the interview.

So the trick is to take care of the peripheral points that all candidates tend to neglect.

So for a recap the points that you must take care of are as follows :

Take care of your appearance. Have a professional look.

Groom well (don’t reach the interview looking shabby)

Dress formally. Never think jeans, T shirt gives you that cool look. It just makes you appear like a rebel and trust me, while recruiting or taking admissions, when the examiners are seeing you for the 1st time, they perceive you as a future problem. This drastically reduces your chances of getting selected.

One of the most general question that you will be asked, though, it might be a cliche, what is your motivation in joining our institute ?

Be prepared with the history of the college you are appearing for and also a good answer on your motivation to be a dental surgeon.

In college degree exams, its always straight forward question on the respective subject. Bu when you are giving interview for a dental job or entry in to a good college in abroad – they seek , just more than your degrees. So get ready with a list of activities (along with certificates if you have them) that you have done outside your curriculum. Social work and community service counts a lot in that regard.

Remember your childhood performance of Jack-n-Jill.

YOU SUCCEEDED THERE, YOU ARE SUCCEEDING NOW!

WOW! Your Examiner just told me, s/he has given you 10/10.

I knew U wud DO it, my dear friend!!! 😀
